Death Stranding: Hideo Kojima took the stage at SXSW 2025 in Austin, TX to introduce a spectacular new trailer for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. Along with the exciting video, Kojima also confirmed the game’s much-anticipated release date.

Death Stranding 2 release date and early access details

Mark the date on your calendar—Death Stranding 2 will officially launch for PlayStation 5 on June 26, 2025. But if you buy the Digital Deluxe Edition or Collector’s Edition, you’ll get early access two days earlier on June 24, 2025.

10-minute explosive trailer, tons of new reveals

The new 10-minute long trailer is a great mix of cinematics and gameplay clips. But what has caught the most attention of fans is a character named Neil, played by Italian actor Luca Marinelli. Many believe that this character resembles Solid Snake from Kojima’s famous Metal Gear franchise. In the trailer, Neil is seen tying a bandana just like Snake, and then he leads his team.

Kojima had already praised Luca Marinelli in his Instagram post in 2020 and said that if he wore the bandana, he would look like a perfect copy of Solid Snake.

Glimpse of Metal Gear influence

The trailer gives a glimpse of a new mysterious character Magellan Man, who combines with the DHV Magellan to become a giant, black tar-like creature. Its design is very similar to Metal Gear Rex.

The Collector’s Edition will include a 15-inch statue of this fearsome creature. The trailer shows it functioning like a Pacific Rim-style mech, fighting giant tar monsters.

Death Stranding 2 Editions and Prices

If you’re planning to buy it, the prices are as follows:

  • Standard Edition – $69.99
  • Digital Deluxe Edition – $79.99
  • Collector’s Edition – $229.99 (includes Magellan Man figurine and other exclusive collectibles)

The Death Stranding story continues

The first Death Stranding was released on November 8, 2019 and has since been played by over 19 million players. The sequel’s tagline is: “Should we have joined?”

Death Stranding Global Concert Tour: ‘The Strands of Harmony’

Apart from the game, Kojima also announced a global concert tour called The Strands of Harmony World Tour. It will take place in 19 cities, where live orchestras and singers will perform Ludvig Forssell’s famous Death Stranding soundtrack as well as music from other artists.

The concert will feature HD video projections that bring to life memorable moments from Death Stranding and its sequel. The tour will kick off at the Sydney Opera House on November 8, 2025, which marks the sixth anniversary of Death Stranding.

Kojima Productions’ Next Projects

Hideo Kojima and his team are working on several big projects. Apart from Death Stranding 2, Kojima Productions is also working on a live-action Death Stranding movie, which is being made in collaboration with A24 Studios. A24 is the same studio that made the Oscar-winning film Everything Everywhere All At Once.

Apart from this, Kojima is working on two other gaming projects:

  • OD – It is a mystery game, which is being developed for Xbox Game Studios.
  • Physint – A unique project that will be a mix of video games and cinema, and is being prepared for Sony.

At the moment, there is no official release date for OD and Physint. In January, Kojima revealed that the video game actors’ strike has delayed the production of both projects, so it will be a while before we get more information.
