Coronation Street fame actor Ryan Thomas is set to return to the popular soap drama after nine years. According to reports, he will be a part of the farewell track of his on-screen mother Eileen Grimshaw.
Ryan Thomas’ return confirmed
According to a report in British newspaper The Sun, Ryan, who plays Jason Grimshaw, will soon start shooting on the sets. He first stepped into ‘Coronation Street’ in 2000 and said goodbye to the show in 2016. His character in the show was shown going in search of a new life in Thailand.
TV career and journey outside the show
After leaving the show, Ryan worked in the Australian soap drama Neighbours and also became the winner of Celebrity Big Brother in 2018. Recently, he won the trophy by performing brilliantly in Dancing on Ice.
Eileen Grimshaw’s departure and other star returns
Along with Ryan Thomas’ return, Katy Cavanagh will also be making a comeback on the show. She is coming back to play Eileen Grimshaw’s on-screen sister Julie Carp.
In January this year, actress Sue Cleaver announced she was leaving the show after playing Eileen Grimshaw for 25 years. She said: “The door will still be open for the role but I have decided to embrace new opportunities and live life without fear as I enter my 60th year.”
Eileen Grimshaw’s farewell episode will be emotional
During a recent chat on Loose Women, Sue Cleaver said her departure from the show is going to be “emotional” and “difficult” for her. She added, “Many of my friends are still on the show, so I will always be connected to ‘Coronation Street’. My husband is also part of the lighting team on the show, so I won’t feel completely disconnected, but it is going to be very emotional.”
