Movie Review

The much-awaited robbery comedy film Robinhood starring Nithin and Srileela has hit the theatres worldwide today. The film has been released on the special occasion of Ugadi for the audience. Did the film live up to expectations? Let’s find out.

Story

Ram (Nitin) is an orphan child who grows up suffering from poverty and hunger. He helps the needy by stealing money from the rich. Meanwhile, the dangerous villain (Devdutt Nage) plans to expand his illegal drugs business internationally. He learns that a special species of ganja grown in Rudrakonda village is in great demand abroad.

At the same time, Vasudev’s daughter Reena Vasudev (Sreeleela) goes to Rudrakonda for some reason. Meanwhile, Ram also goes there with her. What is the connection of Abhinav Vasudev (Sijju), the owner of Australia-based AV Pharma company, with this entire conspiracy? How does drug mafia David (David Warner) get involved in this story? The answers to all these questions are found on the big screen.

Special features of the film

  • Venky Kudumula has maintained his special direction style. He has created a great balance of entertainment and emotions in this film. Especially in the first half, there are many opportunities for laughter, which tickles the audience a lot.
  • Nitin has impressed the audience with his action and comic timing. His comic timing with Srileela and Rajendra Prasad is excellent.
  • Sreeleela’s character is written in a great way and she has performed brilliantly in her comic scenes.
  • Villain Devdutt Nage’s acting is impressive. His character is shown strong right from the beginning, which strengthens the story of the film.
  • Supporting actors like Subhalekha Sudhakar, Lal, Vennela Kishore have also strengthened the film with their acting.
  • Australian cricketer David Warner has played his negative image well with light comedy in his role.

Weak points

  • The screenplay of the film is excellent in the beginning, but the pace slows down in the second half.
  • The story seems weak at some places due to the absence of many important characters. In the beginning, the villain has been shown to be very strong, but by the time the climax comes, his effect diminishes.
  • The comedy style of the first half fades in the second half.
  • Two songs of the film disrupt the flow of the story. If these were removed, the pace of the film could have been better.

Technical points

  • The production value is good, but some VFX scenes needed improvement. For example, in one scene, the blood on Nithin’s face looks artificial.
  • GV Prakash’s music matches the mood of the film and the background score is also good. The cinematography is good, but the editing could have been even better.
  • The film could have been even better by removing some unnecessary songs.

Direction and Story

Venky Kudumula has once again proved that he is a master of making entertaining films. His comic timing and dialogue delivery are effective. The action scenes are stylish, but the story seems predictable at places. Based on old tropes like the drug mafia, the film could have been more interesting with some new twists. However, the film has good emotional depth and the protagonist’s intentions are well portrayed.

Final Verdict

Overall, Robin Hood is a fun, light-hearted entertainer, with the right mix of comedy, action and emotions. Venky Kudumula’s distinctive style and the brilliant performances of Nithin and Devdutt Nage make the film worth watching. The film could have been even better if the screenplay had been improved. Nevertheless, Robin Hood turns out to be a good weekend entertainer, which can be watched for light-hearted entertainment.
